Interview with Caspar Brüllmann
Mr Brüllmann, you’ve spent the last twenty years working on highly customised workplace solutions for control rooms and operations centres, in the form of Deskflex. You have constantly developed and refined these specialised multiscreen solutions. You are now looking ahead to your retirement, and, as of 1 May, you are handing over your product range to Lista Office LO. What new opportunities do you see emerging from this step?
I began developing complex workplace solutions for the stock exchange around twenty years ago. At the time, the financial sector was highly innovative and technology-driven, and keen to invest in bespoke workplace solutions. Today, a transformation is underway and solutions that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago are now becoming reality – catalysed by the Covid pandemic and the rapid advance of artificial intelligence technologies. In particular, professional financial trading is shifting from a multiscreen office workplace to home computers and smartphones. The security sector is seeing a similar transition: while these control centres currently still have highly complex requirements, we expect this to change over the coming years. This simplification in requirements creates exciting opportunities. Instead of building products to order to meet individual specifications, we can look at adaptable solutions from the Deskflex range that connect to Lista Office LO’s highly flexible range of sitting/standing systems. LO Deskflex will be available to a wider range of target customers, and at the same time Lista Office LO can build on its position as a comprehensive solution provider for modern office environments.
What was the key factor in your decision to hand over marketing and development of your product range to Lista Office LO?
It is very important to me that our customers will continue to receive long-term support from a reliable, professional company. I know the Lista Office LO teams well through our years of partnership and many successful projects. Like us, the company is based in East Switzerland, so we speak the same language; what’s more, we also share similar values and vision, in particular our emphasis on high standards for quality and service.
How will your existing customers benefit from the acquisition of Deskflex by Lista Office LO?
Our existing customers will continue to receive the same high level of service – in fact, thanks to the fine coverage of Lista Office LO’s service network, they may even receive better support. They will also have a single contact person, which helps build synergies and brings additional benefits.
What will your role at Lista Office LO be?
My primary focus for the next 2.5 years leading up to my retirement will be to pass on all the knowledge and experience I have built up over the years when working with our Deskflex customers. My goal is to ensure that Lista Office LO will be able to establish itself as a reliable solutions provider for a sector that to date has been the exclusive domain of specialist providers.
Our final question: what exciting changes do you see for complex workplace environments over the coming years?
The basic requirements for workplaces will only change very gradually. However, when it comes to technology, things are moving much faster. One change I anticipate is a rise in VR headsets that will display information directly, making smartphones superfluous and leaving our hands free for other tasks…
