Healthy at work
A peaceful, ergonomic office zone in Basel.
When planning a new corporate office, Pierre Fabre Pharma AG wanted to create an environment where people can truly focus on their work. A lot of thought went into getting the acoustics right, as well as ergonomic design for the workstations. The atmosphere is completed by warm colour tones on selected design elements, which provide a lively contrast to the neutral, efficient office furniture.

The concept
Pierre Fabre Pharma AG took the opportunity of a relocation to the Peter-Merian-Haus in Basel to introduce a fresh new office design. Waving goodbye to the old single offices, the company decided that its two-day-a-week work-from-home policy lent itself best to an open-plan model with hotdesking.
The business model at Pierre Fabre Pharma AG is based on pharmaceutical products and cosmetics. The company sets itself high standards for its products... and equally high standards for its office spaces. “We knew we wanted top quality furniture,” explains Milena Daguati, Head of Business Strategy & Operations Pharma DACH. “We wanted things that would look good, work well and last well.”
The company’s focus on health is reflected in ergonomic elements such as the flexible office chairs, height-adjustable desks, and neatly hidden cables. Employee comfort was also taken into account when thinking about the acoustics, with noise-insulating dividers between workstations and carpeting throughout the offices. For those who need a little extra peace and quiet to focus, or are looking for privacy for a conversation or meeting, “Framery pods” have been installed. “The quality of these office pods is excellent. They're well ventilated, the light can be adjusted, and they're completely soundproof”, says Milena Daguati.
Cleverly placed warm colour accents lift the atmosphere in the new Pierre Fabre Pharma AG office. For example, some of the soundproof dividers are the same stylish Bordeaux red as the armchairs, while the staircases and parts of the furniture use wood to create warmth. The harmonious colour scheme is rounded off with navy blue partition walls and sofas. Milena Daguati is delighted with the result: “The warm colour tones create a positive, serene atmosphere and a sense of wellbeing. Our employees enjoy coming to the office, and they can work productively here.” She believes that the high quality workplace is crucial, since employees spend so much time at the office. “An important detail at your desk is good lighting with warm light,” she adds.
Short supply chains and flexibility were also important to Pierre Fabre Pharma AG, so they turned to suppliers who could produce the furniture within Switzerland or Europe. Milena Daguati has high praise for Lista Office LO’s customer focus: “Our partner addressed our requests and needs, and gradually refined the design for us. The professional, comprehensive advice from Lista Office LO was extremely valuable to our process.”
The furnishings
Warm colour tones on selected design elements set off the neutral, efficient office furniture with lively accents, creating a harmonious office environment that fosters wellbeing. Noise-insulating dividers, carpeting and soundproof cabins reduce ambient noise, so that employees can focus in the open-plan space. The office chairs can be flexibly adjusted, the desks are height-adjustable, and cables are neatly hidden away.
The success
- Ergonomic workstations are a basis for good health
- An overall focus on ergonomics and wellbeing is rounded off by a well-designed acoustic concept, allowing for focused work
- The open-plan model encourages communication between employees
- Hotdesking suits the remote working policy (employees work from home two days a week)
- Soundproof “Framery pods” and comfortable seating areas with sofas provide space to relax, work in peace, or hold meetings
